Message from the Principal

January was a very busy month.  We have lots on the go for students to enjoy and participate in to beat the winter blues.  As previously mentioned, rehearsals are underway and the students have been cast in this year’s musical production: “The Great Ghost Chase”.  It promises to be a brilliant show; I know families won’t want to miss it in the spring. In addition, our gym is busy every recess with Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball practices, Intramural Dodge ball as well as Intramural Floor Hockey.

We raised about $1000 through bake sales, raffles and a pledge run with all proceeds going to Free the Children to support the earthquake devastated Haiti.  Our École Macphail students and their families are once again proving that they care about what happens outside of our community and want to make a difference.  I am thrilled to be a part of such a caring school community.

Our first Literacy Day celebrated on Jan. 27 was an amazing success.  Students throughout the school were enthralled as stories were read to them by guest readers from across our community.  Many thanks go out to Mrs. Napper-Sharpe for organizing the day and all of our guests who made the day memorable for our students.  Special thanks to our four guests from the Grey County OPP Community Liaison Officer Sue MacPherson, Inspector Bob Mahlberg, Staff Sgt Rick Sinnamon and Constable Rick Sadler;  Wendy Krebsz Public Fire & Life Safety Educator from Grey Highlands Fire & Emergency Services; Mr. Hartman, Mrs. Griffen, Mrs. Galloway, Mrs. McLean, Mr & Mrs.. Dawson, Minister Doyle Prier, Mrs. Keating-Jones, Jan Moore and all of our wonderful École Macphail staff.  This event would not have been so successful with out all of you and your gift of time.  Many of the children said on their way to the buses that they wished every day was Literacy Day! I believe that this sincere compliment underscores the importance of hearing lots of different people read.  On January 27th we helped children to see that literacy is the cornerstone of learning and that no matter what our occupation or career path, literacy is an essential component.
Yours in learning,
S. Marck
